Program Topic: Strategies for Working with Employees with Disabilities

Program Summary: As more individuals with disabilities enter the workforce, many employers have questions about what the proper etiquette is when working with these individuals.  No one wants to feel like they have unknowingly made an offensive comment or were insensitive to another person.  The goal of any company should be to have a work environment that is comfortable for all employees and encourages them to perform at their highest level.

Session 3 seeks to address employer questions and interest in a comfortable and open format, while incorporating a panel of individuals with disabilities sharing their personal experiences in the workforce.

The purpose of this session is to help HR professionals and small business managers learn proper etiquette, sensitivity, and strategies for working with employees who have a disability.

  • General guidelines when working with employees with a disability.
  • Using the appropriate terminology and why it really does make a difference.
  • Strategies for working with specific disabilities.

Primary Presenters:

Mike Teachey, Lead Facilitator/Director of Greenville CAN

Chris Sparrow, Presenter/Employment Services Coordinator at Able South Carolina
